New year... New house.

So, back in September, when the girls and I were in Nova Scotia, Sean painted the main part of our house.  There is a bit of a funny story with that whole situation...

Back in 2010 when Sean and I bought the house there were colors that were not our taste on the walls. We had wanted to change the colors to a green, but neither of us could really decide.  We both compromised because we thought it was what the other wanted.  I really liked the yellow we had in the kitchen, but the greens that we had in the rest of the room I did NOT like.  Turns out... neither did Sean...

SO.... We had some work done to the bathroom when we were on vacation this summer and therefore, needed to paint the bathroom.  I brought home some paint swatches, or chips, or whatever you want to call them.  While I was at the store I had chosen some colors that I liked for the main room, and I just wanted to see what Sean thought.  I didn't tell him what colors I liked myself, and there were a myriad of shades and colors to choose from.  I had grabbed greys, blues, greens and taupes.  Sean, very thoughtfully looked at all the colors and he chose light grey and dark blue... the EXACT ones that I had chosen in my head!  YAY!!!!  We were finally on the same page, and it literally took minutes to decide what had taken us weeks the last time.

But, now with all the new colors, we didn't really LOVE the way that the house was set up anymore.  We had both really liked the blue/grey/white color pallet.

Thus, brings around the "new house" title.  We had some furniture in different places in the house that had been given to us by friends in Red Deer.  Sean and I knew that we would be moving the piano into the nursery so that I could open my studio, so that meant that Maria had to go upstairs... just like Jenni.

This weekend Jenni was in Yakima, WA with her grandparents, and so, being down one kid, we thought, what a better use of our time than to rearrange the entire house???  So that is what we did.

First, we got Maria's room all settled.

Then, because the nursery was all cleared out, we called Sean's brother to help us move the piano into the now studio.  WHAT A GONG SHOW!!!!  First we tried to get the piano in at an angle and that didn't work.  Then we took the door off the closet in the hallway to give us a BETTER angle and THAT didn't work.  Finally we ended up turning the piano onto its side (Horrid behavior, I know) and scooted it into the room.  It was rather hilarious to watch, I am sure.  I didn't think to take a movie of it, because that would have been pure comedy gold!
Then, all by myself I managed to get the little love seat couch in.

Then I moved the computer and computer desk (with help from the boys) into the room and while they were hilariously struggling with taking the big flower couch downstairs I was putting on my beautiful wall decals and decorating my piano.

I have to admit that Sean was not too pleased with me doing the wall decals and decorating while him and Bryce were moving couches, because I could have been clearing a path for them, or cleaning up the living area... but I was just so excited.

Then I went and got all the books I could find in the basement and some of my music stuff (still have lots more to find in the disaster that is the basement) and started plugging away at making the closet an organized storage space, and putting some books and things out on display on the windowsill.

I even have my yarn all stored away in boxes that are easy to access, but not in the way.  I love them!                                                                                Today my big task was to get the living space organized and the toys edited down.  We have a ridiculous amount of toys in this house and some of them are really tiny, so if the girls haven't played with it in a while... GONE!  Baby toys... GONE!!  Broken things... GONE!!!  It felt SO good!  Now, all we have in the living space is the klip-klop princesses and their homes, the chairs and some toys that the girls do regularly play with.
Then we have our glorious new (to us) couch that is perfect for our space.  In the spot that the Piano used to be we just have a chair and little table.  I like sitting there because I can read and keep an eye on the girls without being distracted by the television.

Then we have the rest of the toys.  Well, the girls have a perfectly good play area upstairs that they can use together, so that is exactly what I set up.  I put all the Little People stuff (Castle, Noah's Ark, Farm, Bus, Playground, Sesame Street, etc...) in Maria's room.  Some of it hidden in the wooden hutch, some of it out for the girls to play with.  Then I put Jenni's Barbie house and all her Barbies in HER room.  That way, when she doesn't want Maria getting into her Barbies she can shut the door.  In the main common area between their rooms is where are the little things are stored.  One box for My Little Pony, one for anything Little People, one for coloring stuff, one for stuffies, one for blocks, one for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and GI Joe, one for Sesame Street, one for purses and one for miscellaneous tiny things that don't belong in the aforementioned boxes.  I have to say I am pretty proud of the system.  I don't know how long it will last, but it doesn't seem too hard to replicate for the girls.  We will have to see.  Neither of them (or me) have been very good at keeping things cleaned and organized.  Getting it there... yes.... keeping it there... not so much.

So, we will see how well I do at keeping this clean.  I have to admit that one of my goals for the year 2015 is to be more disciplined with keeping house, so... here's to hoping.  I do really like it when everything has a home.  Now, tomorrow I am going to tackle the entry way/laundry room.  Sean and I have decided that we are going to replace the flooring in there this year, so I am sure there will be pictures of that in the future.
