So, today I was really excited to tell some of my girlfriends that Maria had asked Jesus to come live in her heart. One of them asked me if I had journaled about it at all so that we could talk about it when they are older and I admitted that I hadn't. So, this is the journal entry that gives details on how both Jenni and Maria asked Jesus to live in their heart.
July 2013 - a Wednesday, however, I am not 100% sure which Wednesday.
I was asked to help out with VBS at the church for the Wednesday because someone else couldn't make it. Jenni wasn't technically old enough to be in VBS, but because I was there and she would be in my class they said she could come. At the beginning of the session there was a bit of a "play" or "skit" that had to do with caterpillars, butterflies, lady bugs and an evil dragonfly.
Well, the evil dragonfly had taken the caterpillars captive because they had done something wrong, and was going to kill them, but the butterfly had come to the rescue and had said, "kill me, but spare the caterpillars" (or something like that). It was all very sad. But at the very end of the skit the butterfly had come back to life. It was all very simple, and there are lots of flaws in the analogy, but it made sense for Jenni. She understood that Jesus was like the butterfly, and even though we had done bad things, Jesus died in our place so we wouldn't have to.
That night, Sean and Jenni and I were talking and Jenni said that she wanted Jesus to die for HER sins. So we talked her through what it meant to have Jesus in our hearts and she asked Jesus to come live in her heart. It hasn't always been easy, but it has made a big difference to be able to explain how the Holy Spirit, that lives in our hearts, wants us to live.
Now, Maria on the morning of January 8, 2016, was lying in my bed with me and we were snuggling and talking. She was asking about Jesus and the Holy Spirit and so I started talking to her about what it means to have Jesus in our heart. I said to her, "Do you want to ask Jesus to live in your heart?"
"Yes mommy!" Then she looks up at the ceiling, "Jesus, do you want to live in my heart?" She looks at me excitedly after a moment... "HE DOES!" she says. It was really REALLY cute.
So her and I prayed together that Jesus would come to live in her heart and forgive her for her sins. It was very sweet. Now, she is all exited because she walks up to everyone and practically yells, "I have Jesus in my HEART!"
So, the stories aren't extremely miraculous or majorly detailed, but to us in our family, they are nothing short of amazing. God is so good and it is so awesome to see him working in the hearts and lives of our two sweet girls.
