Back On Track... Not On Purpose....

Ok, so after I wrote the last post about how Maria has gotten sick... again... and how I was going to beat the germs... well... the germs read the post and they laughed in my face.

Saturday I was laid up in bed sick as all get out with a horrid, horrid cold.  I figured, I would just sleep the day away and then get better, because that is what usually happens.  I have a full day of rest and recuperation and then I am good to go.  Not this time.

Sunday morning I had a BUNCH of responsibilities at the church so I got up bright and early and headed off to church to not only be in worship team, but to also teach Sunday School, and lead the music for the Christmas Program.  I was run ragged.  So, by the time I got home from church I was ready to just get back into bed... And that is exactly what I did.  I stayed there for quite some time too.  And I went to bed at 8:00 just like the kids.  I thought I would be golden Monday morning and even though I would miss Sean's help around the house that I had just had for the past 4 days (he was sick and so he took Thursday and Friday off to rest up) I would be fine.  Just get back to normal... right??

WRONG!!!!

So very wrong.  I woke up in the middle of the night shivering and was unable to get warm.  I asked Sean to warm me up by wrapping his arms around me and he said I was hotter than him.  UH-OH!  Well, eventually I did warm up, and I kept getting warmer, and warmer, and warmer.... jeepers!

Finally, at 5:00am I was in so much pain in my sinuses that I went into the hospital to see a doctor.  Part of the reason I went in so early was because I thought that then I could get home before Sean had to go to work and then he could go.  I was at the hospital for over an hour and as the time went on I felt worse, and worse, and worse and worse.  (Yes, I realize that I am repeating myself a lot, but I am telling you... this is how it felt...)  The Dr. finally came into the hospital and checked me out and said that I definitely had a sinus infection (I had thought back and realized that the left side of my sinuses hadn't drained in over 48 hours), and I had an ear infection in both of my ears.  YUCK!  So, on antibiotics I went.  He also prescribed some stronger pain killers for me and a nasal spray.  He also said that I needed to stay in bed for the day (again) so Sean was not able to make it to work (again) that day.  The nurse came in with a needle and gave me a shot of something or other in my hip and sent me on my way.

It is now Friday and today is the first day that I have felt even remotely normal.  Throughout the week my voice disappeared completely, I had to blow my nose every 30 seconds (sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively) and I only had enough energy to keep the kids fed and watered.  I did manage to get the girls to the Dr. on Tuesday as well to make sure they didn't have some kind of infection too (they didn't), but other than that I was useless.

There are a few good things that have come out of this whole endeavor.  I did manage to lose 8 lbs (back to where I was when I was in NS) and I also managed to keep most all refined sugar out of my system.  I wasn't having anything with refined sugar.  I pretty much was drinking water or herbal tea (plain - no caffeine) and I was eating fruit (apples, Christmas oranges, bananas, and pomegranates) and then dinner.  No milk, limited milk products... I am telling you... if you need to detox your body from things that you don't need, well then getting sick is not the best way to do it, but it worked for me.  Even tonight being Halloween I haven't had any candy.  I was craving it for sure, but I got myself some grapes from the grocery store and had those instead.

So, like my title says, I am back on track... but not on purpose... it just kind of... happened.  Regardless, let's keep on this path while also getting better.
