Vaccinate to protect!

Ok, I am sick and tired of the whole vaccine/anti-vaccine CRAP as of late. The people who don't want to vaccinate their kids are selfish and, in my opinion, completely stupid!!! I know that this blog post will probably ruffle some feathers or outright insult someone, but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!!!! Also, this blog has nothing to do with the statistics and research and other articles, but has everything to do with real life experiences with me and my family. Just sayin..... Today I started to read a blog post by a guy entitled "8 reasons I don't vaccinate my daughter". I say I started reading because I couldn't get past the first reason. I just got so MAD!!! It was "I fear the risk of complications from vaccines more than I fear the risk of complications from infection"

You fear the sideffect of the vaccination more than you fear the sideffect of the infection????? What??? So you don't fear DEATH???? Here's the thing. The diseases that the vaccines are protecting your child from are REAL and are a REAL THREAT to you and YOUR CHILD. Oh wait, maybe not to you because your parents probably took you in for YOUR vaccinations. 

See, my child just had a form of the measles called "rosella" and it was one of the most scary things I have gone through. Her fever was up to 104 at one point and I spent many hours in the ER just to make sure that she was ok. Having your child be sick is SCARY. Both my kids have had croup... It is scary when they are coughing and they sound like a dog barking and then they cannot breathe in before they start coughing again. Could you imagine how much WORSE pertussis (whooping cough) could be???

Chicken pox? Yup I had it and I am completely fine, however... My mom and my little brother also had it and they have very serious complications in their life because of it. See, when you get the chicken pox you are at risk of the virus attaching itself to your spine. Then, as you get older, through other circumstances your body may get shingles. My mom and my brother both get shingles. It is a very painful rash sort of thing that can show up pretty much anywhere on your body. My mom gets hers on her eyelid. Talk about painful. Her eye gets swollen shut and is all red and puffy and weepy. It is gross, and she is in pain and there is nothing that can be done for it. My little brother gets his on his head. It makes it painful for him to wear a hat and when you work at a job where a hard hat is kind of necessary that becomes very sucky!! Another side effect of the chicken pox... It is actually a respiratory infection. So, it could, and has, led to pneumonia. 

And there are lots of other risks to having the chicken pox, like flesh eating disease. Those little sores on your body are open wounds and the chance of flesh eating disease is high. So, how is that not scary????? So now my kids are protected from this. 

HPV??? Well I have been exposed to it and I have had more than one biopsy on my cervix. I have a good friend who had HPV and has now been cured from it, but he will have to make sure his future wife is vaccinated before they... Well... You know... Because he is now a carrier of the disease. It will always be with him. So, HELL YES my girls are going to be vaccinated for it because the side effects of that for women is potentially detrimental. 

What about meningitis??? Thankfully I have NEVER been exposed to this or seen it in my life, but there are plenty of people who have. Did you know that the test for meningitis is of the spinal fluid. Now, I have had a needle shoved into my spine, twice, and it is NOT fun. And I had freezing. To do a spinal tap to get the spinal fluid to test is extremely painful. Not to mention the headaches that follow because of the loss of spinal fluid. Why would you EVER want your child to have to experience that!???!??!?

The thought of, "I had it, I'm fine" is a little ridiculous because just because you made it through doesn't mean that your child is going to, and, as a parent, don't you want to protect your kids from things they don't have to go through?????? The parents who won't let their children play in the front yard or play on the playground because they could get hurt or abducted but don't vaccinate are STUPID!!!! You want to protect your children from childhood but you won't protect them from preventable diseases???? Stupid!!!

The thought of, "if it doesn't kill them it will just make them stronger..." Well let's just start out with, IT COULD KILL THEM!! Why wouldn't you want to prevent THAT???!?!? And it probably won't make them stronger. It could completely ruin their immune system and make them MORE susceptible to other diseases and infections. 

The thought of, "the chemicals that are being put into their body is unnecessary" well maybe that is true, but they get chemicals in their body by breathing the air in the city, or swimming in the pool, or eating any kind of prepackaged food, or standing next to a smoker... 

You can't protect your kids from everything and they are going to get sick and they are going to get hurt, but why wouldn't you protect them from something you CAN protect them from???
